Blast Impact T-Shirt - The Story Behind the Design

The Story Behind the Shirt

Explosions don't care whether you're in combat or training.

For some Veterans, the blast came from an IED hidden along a dusty road. For others, it happened on a training range when something went wrong. Maybe it was a recruit fumbling a live grenade during boot camp. Maybe it was an unexpected detonation during an exercise. However it happened, one thing was certain. When an explosion goes off nearby, your life can change in an instant.

Everything happens at once.

The flash. The pressure wave. The deafening boom. Dirt, rocks, and debris flying in every direction. One second you're standing there. The next you're on the ground trying to figure out what just happened. Your ears are ringing so loudly you can't hear the person yelling beside you. Your heart is pounding. Your body is running on adrenaline while your brain is trying to catch up with reality.

If you're lucky, you get back on your feet.

Someone asks, "You okay?"

Like countless Veterans before you, the answer is almost automatic.

"Yeah... I'm good."

But sometimes you're not.

The blast may not leave a visible wound, but your body remembers it. Concussions. Traumatic brain injuries. Hearing loss. Tinnitus. Neck injuries. Back pain. Shoulder injuries. PTSD. Anxiety every time you hear a loud bang. Blast waves have an incredible ability to injure people without leaving obvious scars. That's one of the reasons blast injuries can be so difficult to explain to someone who wasn't there.

Years later, many Veterans find themselves sitting in a VA examination trying to describe a moment that lasted only seconds but changed the rest of their lives. You explain the explosion, the shock wave, the injuries, and everything that followed. To you, the connection is undeniable because you lived through it.

Yet for some Veterans, another envelope eventually arrives with three words they've grown tired of reading.

Not Service Connected.

This shirt is for every Veteran who has ever experienced the overwhelming force of an explosion, whether during combat, training, or while preparing for the next mission. It's for those who walked away carrying injuries that weren't always visible but were always real. The blast lasted only a moment. The impact has lasted a lifetime. That's another unforgettable story from Not Service Connected.
