Buy the fit. Keep the print.

From the NSC Field Guide.

A practical checklist for choosing a graphic tee and caring for it without relying on guesswork.

The most useful sizing reference is often already in your closet: a shirt you enjoy wearing. Use it as a comparison, then check the specific product’s size information before ordering. A familiar size letter alone does not tell you how a different shirt will feel.

Start with a shirt that fits

  1. Lay your reference shirt flat without stretching it.
  2. Read the product’s measurement instructions. Some charts describe the garment, while others describe the body.
  3. Compare like with like. If the chart uses a flat chest width, measure that width on your reference shirt; do not compare it directly with a full chest circumference.
  4. Check length as well as width, especially if you prefer to tuck in your shirt or wear it under a jacket.

Think about how you will wear it

Try your reference shirt with the layer you actually use: a work shirt, flannel, or hoodie. Notice whether the sleeves bunch and whether the hem sits where you want it. For a gift, ask for the recipient’s preferred fit instead of guessing from their build or service background.

Let the care label lead

Read the garment’s actual care label before its first wash. Follow its temperature, drying, and ironing instructions. Where the label allows, turning a printed shirt inside out can help limit rubbing against other garments. Keep the print away from direct ironing, and avoid treating an unfamiliar stain with a product you have not checked against the care instructions.

Do not assume that every graphic tee uses the same fabric, print method, or care routine. Product details can change. The matching store page is the place to confirm the current options, material information, size chart, and care guidance.
